Additional Systems and Components
Section 7: Additional Systems and Components
Bendix supplies many other products and systems used on commercial vehicles.
Adaptive Cruise with Braking
Bendix
®
Wingman
ACB - Active Cruise with
Braking is a unique approach to adaptive cruise
control technology. Using a small radar sensor
mounted on the front of the truck, Bendix Wingman
ACB delivers alerts to warn drivers when they are
getting too close to a forward vehicle traveling in
the same lane. When cruise control is on and
set, Bendix
®
Wingman
ACB delivers alerts and
automatic interventions to help the driver maintain
a set following distance behind the forward vehicle.
These automatic interventions include dethrottling
the truck, engaging the engine retarder, or if more
deceleration is needed, applying the foundation
brakes.
In addition, Bendix
®
Wingman
ACB builds on
the full-stability system - Bendix
®
ESP
®
stability,
which helps to mitigate loss of control and rollover
situations on a wide variety of road conditions. The
system also delivers information fl eets can use in
helping to fi ne tune driver performance. Following
distance information and stability events, along
with other data, is available for download through
Bendix
®
ACom
diagnostic software.
The Bendix Wingman ACB - Active Cruise with
Braking - system offers fl eets a potentially quick
return on investment (ROI), through potential
accident reductions and possible fuel savings. In
the future, this technology will evolve to include
other driver assistance systems, such as lane
departure warning, blind spot detection and
other technologies, providing fl eets a proactive
approach to help reduce crashes and associated
costs.
Advanced Technologies
Bendix, through its acquisition of SmarTire,
now offers a wireless approach to tire pressure
monitoring. Using a sensor/transmitter mounted
securely inside each tire, a wireless receiver and
a dash-mounted display, the SmartWave
®
TPMS
system actively measures the air pressure and
temperature within the tires. This information is
then sent wirelessly to a receiver mounted on the
vehicle or a hand-held display and:
Alerting the driver of a loss of air pressure or
dangerously high tire temperature.
Informing the fl eet manager of tire-related
issues by linking through telematics systems.
Providing tire inflation information to
maintenance personnel to help ensure
optimum operating conditions.
SmartWave technology simplifi es and automates
the tire maintenance process providing a potential
reduction in fl eet operating costs and helping
improve safety through proactive monitoring and
alerting fl eet personnel of potential tire infl ation
and heat issues.
